When making a difficult exit from a bad relationship:

• If your partner will not stop physically following you when you try to leave a situation, since they are following you, have them follow you to a police station or domestic violence shelter.  When you arrive, ask the employees for help getting the person to leave you alone. 

• If you do not have a support system and do not feel safe moving away from the situation, contact a domestic violence hotline (800-799-7233)  or hire a bouncer of a bar for independent work.  

• Do not move alone, have people there with you. They may steal your moving van and hide it from you to hold it ransom in exchange to gain entry into your new place. 

• Move your sentimental items out first, they may steal it, to later get access to you.

• Bad relationships will provoke you into tears and try to use it against you, focus on getting out of the situation.

• Do not give in to threats. Otherwise threats will never end because they will think it can control you.
